Overview
Hey girly, I’m Katie! Today we’ll be talking all about habits and how you can implement some good habits in your routine right now!
What are habits?
Habits are things we practice regularly without thinking twice about them. Like when a pesky gnat gets a little too close to your eye, you blink! You don’t think twice about it because it’s just a natural instinct. This is what habits are, things that are second nature to us.
As you were reading this, what are some habits that came to mind? Do you always go into the bathroom with your besties even though you’re very capable of going alone? Or maybe you always put on your left shoe before your right?
It’s crazy that we do things in a pattern without even realizing it!
But let’s be real, some habits can become kind of a bad thing. Such as sleeping in every. single. morning. even when you know you’ve got things to do (uh oh, do you feel called out?) It’s fine, just read more about those here to see if you’re practicing anymore of those bad habits.
Enough about that because today we’ll be diving into some good habits that you can implement into your life today!
But first, let’s talk about the importance of habits!

Importance of Habits
So, why are habits important? Habits are literally the building blocks of our day. Throughout our daily routine, we naturally do certain things simply because we’re used to them. But our everyday habits are important because they literally become our routine!
So do you want your routine to have a harmful impact on your day or a positive impact? I’m sure you chose positive, right? Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to what you’ve been waiting for!
6 Life-Changing Habits
Do something for your health
At the end of the day, your health is one of the only things you have, so make sure you’re taking care of it!
Fix your posture, eat greens daily (we’re not picky toddlers anymore! lol), move your body.
And remember to take care of your mental and physical health.
Maybe that means brain-dumping your thoughts every evening or going on a mile run. Whatever it is, stick to it… your future self will take you.
Plan your day
Nothing is worse than waking up, feeling like you’ve got a ton to do but having no idea where to start.
No phone for at least 30 min before you wake up

Cut out the mindless strolling when you wake up. Girl, trust me. You really do not need to know what Kylie Jenner was up to at 3 am… it’s just not important. Plus, there truly is no use in looking at your idols’ “perfect” life.
Not only is filling your mind with other people’s realities before your own, but your also setting unrealistic expectations for yourself and your current situation.
Remember that we are all on separate journeys, and everyone’s timeline of success is different.
Also, can we talk about how many times we wake up to absolutely horrific news?
Please tell me that I’m not the only one who feels immediately deflated every time I open my newsfeed to stuff like that?
So, try to start your morning with a clean slate instead of letting social media dictate your day. Just you and your own thoughts.
I like to dedicate my mornings to things that are positive and mindful. The one thing that I love love love to do in the morning is a workout.
I live for the feeling of getting my heart rate up and jamming to my favorite music or podcast. This time is just for me and me only. And, don’t get me started on the endorphins I feel after a workout.
I challenge you to dedicate at least 30 minutes of your mornings to doing something you love.
Make time for self-care every day
Sometimes we get so caught up in the hustle of daily tasks that we forget to take time for ourselves. I’m guilty of this too, I often catch myself overstudying or overworking and never taking a break to breathe until I’m burnt out.
So, before you get to that point, do some self-care. Whether that’s going for a 30-minute walk, reading your favorite book, or cozying up to watch your Netflix show before bed.
Take some time out of your day to do something that’s purely for you.

Practice Gratitude
Take the time to write down what you’re grateful for.
Are you happy to be waking up in a cozy bed?
Are you grateful it’s a sunny day?
Are you grateful to have a loving and supportive group of friends?
Write down whatever pops into your head so you go throughout the day being extra appreciative of the little things.

Have a consistent night or morning routine
My morning routine makes me feel energized and ready to tackle the day ahead. I also like that I get to do all of the things I enjoy BEFORE jumping into my priorities. Here’s what an average morning looks like for me.
- Waking up.
- Open blinds.
- Make my bed.
- Jump into my gym clothes to get in a good sweat sesh.
- Shower.
- Make breakfast.
- 30 or so minutes to relax.
- I get to work on either my zoom lectures or start tutoring for the day (I’m a stats tutor!).
But I get it, girl! Some people are just more productive in the evening than during the day.
If that’s you then have a consistent night routine instead. Try to do some things you enjoy during the evening such as cooking a wholesome meal, journaling, or lighting a candle to wind down.
Your routine should fit with YOUR lifestyle, so it’s important to remember that routines aren’t one size fits all.
Let’s sum it up!
So basically, habits are the things we do every single day without thinking twice about it. Habits can be good or bad, and these habits slowly start to become apart of our routine. But it’s time to start implementing some more GOOD habits in your routine, so why not start with these!
